COMPOSITION AND BENEFITS OF HONEY

About Honey:

Honey was an essential meal for Homo sapiens from the beginning of time as it was the only naturally occurring sweetener accessible. Honey has been utilized for nutritional and medicinal purposes in the majority of ancient societies. The primary ingredients, making up over 95% of the dry weight of the honey, are carbohydrates. In addition to carbohydrates, honey also includes a variety of other substances, including minerals, vitamins, amino acids, proteins, organic acids, and aroma compounds.

The monosaccharides glucose and fructose are the primary sugars. In addition, around twenty-five distinct oligosaccharides are present. The three main honey enzymes are diastase (amylase), decomposing starch or glycogen into smaller sugar units, invertase decomposing sucrose into fructose and glucose.

Benefits of Honey:

Antimicrobial, Antiviral and Antiparasitic Activity

Antioxidant Effects

Antimutagenic and Antitumor Activity
