India expands its HPV vaccination campaign to prevent cervical cancer.

The government intends to prioritize immunizing girls aged 9 to 14 against cervical cancer, as declared by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1. This is part of her Interim Budget 2024.

Before the general elections, Ms. Sitharaman delivered the final budget of Narendra Modi’s administration, which included a combination of policies for the economy and politically relevant groups like women and farmers. In an attempt to gain support for the next elections, she also utilized the platform to list the policies implemented by the Modi administration during the previous ten years. The Budget is being hailed as a blueprint for “vikshit Bharat,” or developed India, by 2047.
